ArborCrest Tour

August 20, 2025

The July 16 meeting was presented by Paul Laurent, Naturalist. He brought the club a program on “The Canada of the South - Birds in the Southern Highlands.” A presentation on Local Breeding Birds.

Gather

We gather to learn and share knowledge on a variety of topics from specific gardening skills to learning about farms or local businesses contributing to horticulture in our area.

Cultivate

Our programs foster community across a range of skill levels and interests. We have members who have been in the club 30 plus years and we have members joining us who have just moved to the High Country. Our members come together over a love of flowers and service for the area.

Give Back

We offer opportunities to volunteer or join various project committees throughout the year to get involved in service where we give back outside of the civic gardens. Whether you would like to donate your time in the garden, on a project, or financially, we are continuously striving to create multiple ways for our members to get involved.

June 18 meeting was presented by Dr. McBug (Richard McDonald, Phd)

His program about beneficial insects was very informative and fun. We were able to have a short walk as Dr. McBug showed our group various insects right in the area at Valle Crucis Park.

NOVEMBER 21ST BAKE SALE

The bake sale was a tremendous success thanks to all our volunteering members.

GARDEN’S IN BLOOM

The King Street Garden is designated as a Butterfly Highway Garden by the NC Wildlife Association. Beginning in the Spring, our garden bursts into color with Peonies, Iris, Lillies, Tulips, Daffodils, Amsonia, Sedge and Rose Campion. The season never seems to last long enough. Marigolds, Black-eyed Susan’s, Cone Flowers, Lark Spur, Daisies, Impatiens and Hydrangeas brighten our garden in Summer to early Fall.

Over the last year we’ve worked to develop a section of the garden featuring native plants. It is lush with coral bells, various ferns, sedge and Indian Pinks.

Enjoy the blooms of Boone! Barbara - Member Since 2019
